An idea that began to germinate sometime in the late 60's or early 70's turned into reality in the early eighties.

And it just kept on getting bigger and better and today has become something that the founder, Goldie Spieler, could never have imagined in her wildest dreams.

Also worth visiting when you're at Earthworks pottery are:

  • On The Wall Art and Craft Gallery run by the Barbadian artist Vanito Comissiong featuring works by a number of talented local artists.
  • Tulis Batik is an on site studio that produces quality batik shirts, wraps, scarves, wall hangings and pictures depicting Bajan life and you can watch them being made.
  • Ins and Outs Gift Emporium where you can get real Barbadian made food products like, tamarind balls, coconut sugar cakes, Bajan seasonings and many more.
And after all of the looking and shopping take a break for something refreshing on the Treehouse Cafe terrace nestled on the hillside providing a magnificent view of the island.

I've sat at the Treehouse having a drink looking over the valley imagining a young woman from Canada arriving in Barbados in the 60's and falling in love with it as I did.

Bringing little more than the training that she had received from the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto Canada and having the chutzpah to turn a dream into a reality.

Ah, for those days of innocence once again.

Today Goldie lives most of the time in Israel doing what she loves most these days, painting and and exhibiting beautiful pictures.

David her son, also a very talented guy runs the day to day operation of the potteries in Barbados with the assistance of a number of dedicated employees.
